Photo day :)

Colin had his newborn photos done today! We had Julie come to our house this morning to do them. Keshia and Alicia were sweet and came over to help us get ready. Colin's umbilical cord came off yesterday so they helped Derek bathe him while I got ready. Alicia had cute blankets and props that we used. Keshia also saved the day bringing me Starbucks.

Little Colin did not care to sleep much last night, so he was a little off this am. Slept like a champ until his pictures started. Then we spent the whole 2 hours Julie was here trying to get him to fall asleep for the cute posed newborn pics...haha. Colin was not having it until the very end when we went outside. Hopefully we will get some good ones! We took some family ones too.

The rest of today we spent recovering from that :) Actually Derek did P90x since he's crazy like that, while I napped on the couch. Colin had a really good nap once his pics were all complete. We love this little guy!

Sweet baby dreams :)

Derek has to leave tomorrow for work conference in the morning. It's been so nice the last 9 days being together as a family 24/7. Its only a half day but we sure will miss him!!! I'm sure he'll enjoy some adult interaction though ;)

We escaped the house!

We had a great relaxing day today...we had our first family neighborhood walk today in the stroller. The weather was perfect and I was dying to get out of this house. It sometimes feel like jail :) He slept the whole time, but it did us all good to be outside. Then Derek did yard work while we snuggled :)

Enjoying these days with Derek before he goes to work. He is a baby whisperer and does 90% of parent and house duties during the day. He is great at calming him down, which is not easy with this vocal child ;) It makes those 3-4 total hours I get at night so much better!

Last night we took his week old photo :) He looks sooo different in just 1 week!

1 WEEK OLD!

Can't believe our Colin is 1 week old! His birthday seems like it was soo long ago, but the week has also been a big fast blur too! Each day Colin looks so different and bigger! I think his cheeks are starting to fill out now! Perfect timing too since he's getting newborn photos done Wednesday :)

We have only been to the pediatrician and the store once, but overall he loves riding in his carseat and anything that involves motion. Today we had a sweet friend bring over a swing for us to borrow, I think Colin will be in heaven!

Its been fun to see him change and of course his lack of routine has us always in motion, but we are all resting better and Colin seems to be getting the feedings down well. Still pumping to keep up with his impatient self, but it's worth the extra time. Derek has been doing most of the daytime work and bonding while I do the night routine and stay in his room. He stretches usually to every 3 hours at night which has helped my sleep.

We have noticed today that he is pretty bored with just eating and sleeping...he likes to stay awake for about 30-45 minutes after each feed just looking around and being walked/bounced. He still loves his hands and hates his legs bunched up. Bossy thing ;)

Helping dad work :)

I still feels like we are just babysitting for someone, haha. So much has changed just his short first week of life, I know the time is just going to fly by so we are snuggling as much as possible!!

Pregnancy part 1

Well, I'm going to go back to have this all documented... Colin's beginning!

We found out I was pregnant 2 days before my 1/2 marathon on Feb 23rd. I wasn't feeling good and thought I was getting the flu/stomach bug. I left the test in the bathroom assuming it would be negative and minutes later Derek went in to look at it and came back saying it was positive. We were both in shock! I went in to the doctor the next day for blood work and found out the following Monday that we were in fact preggo! I did end up running that stinking race (my one and probably only 1/2) and we kept calling Colin our "maybe baby";)

We always said we'd wait until after residency to start having kids, but planning is for the birds apparently :) Overall we were very excited, but I don't think it really sunk in until about 16-20 weeks that we were having our own baby!

Thankfully early on I only felt sick from week 8-10...most mostly just nauseated throughout the day and very very tired, but managed to only get really sick twice and still was able to work and workout at the gym pretty easy.

Some weekly photos--

Wahoo-it was nice to be done with the 1st trimester!

5 days old!

Today was a big day for our little man...we had to get a few things from the store, so Derek sat with him in the car while I ran in. It isn't too bad getting ready to leave for places, it was worth it to get outside for a few minutes. Today my milk came in too (TMI) which has Colin in a happier place :)
We decided before he was born that if he came before Halloween we would try to take pics of him in a carved pumpkin. So we did, and it was hilarious!

I'm sure he'll like these pics later in life ;)

Next came Colin's first bath at home. He still has his cord so we just did a sponge bath. He did not like being cold and wet, but did enjoy his hair being washed!

Finally, it was time to get dressed to cheer on Georgia Tech. Must start at an early age! Even though he has slept through most of the game, he sure does look cute dressed up for them!

We are enjoying getting to hang out with him and can't believe it's already been 5 days!!!!

First Holiday!

It's been a busy last few days!! Colin had his first Halloween at the ripe age of 3 days old :) We had our sweet friends bring us over pizza and hang out that evening. We also got to introduce Colin to a few residency friends that were over at our neighbors house. All the dressed up babies were real cute. We started that day at the pediatrician so Colin was a pumpkin by day and a killer whale by night!

Derek and Colin at Galen Peds. We see Dr. Wiley and he is soo nice. He was highly recommended by Derek's coworkers and he's very relaxed. He was pleased with his feedings and said he looked great! We go back Nov. 12th.

Lucky to have these friends (Shanna with Owen-4 months and Keshia with Alli-1 year)

Yesterday was our first day to relax at home all day and it was nice! Derek usually sleeps most of the night while I sleep in the nursery and stay with little man at night. At this point he was a very hungry/alert baby that wanted to nurse/eat every 2 hours. I did get some good cat naps though. It was nice to bum around and Derek and I got to get the house back in order. We keep saying that we can't believe we have been trusted and blessed with this little guy :)

Colin's BIRTHDAY!!

Warning: Long post and maybe TMI for some, but I want to have this super special day documented for our memories :)

The big DAY! Leading up to his birthday, I grew (and literally grew) tired of being pregnant...like anyone pregnant I'm sure. I had been having stomach cramps...which turned out they were probably contractions since we saw them show up on the monitor at the hospital.

Colin's due date was November 1. Dr. Boyd had us come in weekly the last month and the Friday before his due date he said we were finally progressing! He also mentioned he'd be out of state Nov 1-3 so wanted us to come in Monday and have Colin earlier that week. He did some..uncomfortable procedures.. and I was pretty uncomfortable all weekend. Monday we had progressed more and got to go to Erlanger to have our little Nugget! We checked in that AM and got the party started around 10. We called our families to let them know it was the big day!

He broke my water and started me on Pitocin. I was of course most worried about the IV..haha. It wasn't bad. About an hour or so later the contractions picked up. Derek was so supportive and snuck me gummy bears in between my allowed popsicles :) The contractions were pretty bearable for a while. Our friend Keshia came by with some lunch for Derek and was a good distraction for a while.

Once they got really close together and I had "maxed out" on the Pitocin, I went ahead and called for the epidural. I thought I could handle the stress of getting that done if I was in enough pain! So around 3 I got the epidural and was numb soon after...WEIRDEST feeling ever! I was so much more comfortable after that, and the worst part of the procedure was sitting still during the contractions. I couldn't look at my legs when they moved me, it was so strange!! Our families showed up not too much longer and we all hung out and waited! The men were very into checking out the monitors :)

The anxious waiting grandparents

Thankfully, Colin did well throughout the whole day with laboring. Around 6 I began to feel a lot of pressure and was actually able to start moving my legs pretty good. The nurse came in to "check" me and I was completely dilated (but NOT NUMB, ah!). She told me to push for a bolus of medicine from the epidural pump and when I did, the machine beeped "occluded". To summarize, the line was caught in the pump door and I had stopped getting medicine a while back.

The anesthesiologist came in pretty quick and gave me medicine through a different port and an hour later Dr. Boyd showed up and I was numb again :)

He had the nurse start making me push, but the nurse quickly told him that Colin's head was already down and so into the stirrups I went. Derek on one side and the nurse on the other, they helped me hold my numb legs and push. 18 minutes later, Colin Terry was born at 8:18pm!

No surprise to anyone who knows Colin's personality...he came out screaming loud!

I'd say those ab workouts did me well, for those who made fun of me working out while preggo ;). Derek cut the cord and I got to do skin to skin with him for an hour. It was the best (even if he did scream the whole time). We got to spend about 1 1/2 hours with him before Derek went with him and he got weighed and taken to the nursery for bath time!

Meeting dad!

Meeting mom!

His sweet twisted toes :)

The 1st of many bath times between these 2!

Happy to be all clean! He was so alert!

I would say it was a very surreal experience..Colin looked like a mini-Derek and we were instantly in love with the little man! I felt extremely blessed and grateful that things went smooth and he was a perfect healthy baby!!
